| The Western scientific perspective the menstrual cycle lasts an average of 28 days with ovulation occurring at approximately 10 to 12 days after the end of the menses. This period preceding ovulation can be quite variable in length. Prior to ovulation egg development occurs within a developing ovarian follicle under the influence of pituitary FSH (follicle stimulating hormone.) Ovulation occurs when a mature ovarian follicle is stimulated to release an egg under the influence of an LH (luteinizing hormone) surge following an estrogen surge. Regular, symptom-free menstrual cycles would be a key sign that ovulation is occurring appropriately. |
| From the Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective Kidney Qi weakness can affect the fertility of women. The TCM etiology is that there is a congenital Foundation weakness. Kidney Qi deficiency causes weakness in the Chong and Ren Channels and disharmony of Qi and Blood. An alternate etiology would be when the Chong and Ren Channels are attacked by Wind-Cold which causes stagnation in the uterus. All of this brings about uterine dampness, cold, phlegm and stasis all of which feedback on each other and reinforce each other causing functional infertility in the woman. |

| The goal of this formula is directed at the pre-ovulatory period of the menstrual cycle to enhance the ovarian follicle and egg development and to ensure ovulation within a normal, rhythmic menstrual cycle. Clinical TCM research in China shows that this formula enhances estrin, progestin and estradiol levels and also improves uterine cell receptor function for FSH and LH binding. This formula enhances fertility in conjunction with Dr. Kang's Formula #31 - Pregnancy-2-Womb product which should be taken after ovulation during the 2nd half of the menstrual cycle. |

Dr. Ping Qi Kang (O.M.D., L.Ac.) is an internationally acclaimed doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture, and herbology. He was born into a family tradition of Chinese Medicine that stretches back to 300 years of Shanghai history. The Kang family has been famous for treating external injury, skin infections, bone and injuries and more.
Dr. Kang began studying medicine at the age of 10. At age 18 Dr. Kang entered school at Shanghai Medical University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He spent a year in the ER and soon it was clear that in the various departments he worked his prescribed formulas consistently worked better than his peers'. As he rose to the top of each department specialty he was recognized as a Master of academics and in the clinic. This earned him promotion, at the age of 27, to Chief Medical Officer of the Department of TCM at Shanghai Hospital #1.
