BARRY MORSE (Lt. Gerard) reminisces before both episodes, about each show, and working with David Janssen, the guest stars, executives and crew of "The Fugitive"!! These special openings were made in the 1990s for these video releases! This is a "looks new" NEAR MINT used copy of Volume 18 of the 20 1991 Nu Ventures Video releases of The Fugitive TV series, which stars David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble and Barry Morse as Lt. Philip Gerard with Bill Raisch as the One-Armed Man (aka Fred Johnson). The Fugitive TV series (ABC, 1963-1967) is widely recognized as one of TV's all-time best shows. TV Guide even named it "The Best Drama Of The 1960s" Loosely based on both "Les Miserables" and a real-life 1950s/1960s murder case involving a doctor, The Fugitive stars David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble, a pediatrician in the fictional town of Stafford, Indiana, who is wrongly accused and convicted of murdering his wife. Sentenced to die, Kimble is being taken to the Indiana death house by Stafford Police Lieutenant Philip Gerard (Barry Morse) when "fate moves its huge hand" and their train derails. Kimble is able to escape, and Gerard feels personally responsible, Gerard vows to track Kimble down, recapture him, and take him back to Indiana for execution, no matter the personal cost. Gerard's wife (Barbara Rush) is missing? Kimble is more important. Gerard's wife may leave him? Kimble is more important. Gerard's son (Kurt Russell) is with Kimble? Poor Kimble, but once again, Kimble's capture is paramount to Gerard. Gerard tells anyone who remarks on his obsessive pursuit of Kimble that "Kimble is guilty; and I enforce the law". When Kimble escapes during the confusion of the train derailment, Kimble decides not to flee the country, but rather to prove his innocence by finding his wife's real killer, an elusive One-Armed Man. Kimble comes to discover that the One-Armed Man's real name is Fred Johnson, and that he is a career criminal who scratches out a living doing odd jobs when not committing crimes. Kimble believes that if he finds Johnson, and can make him confess, Kimble can return home to his father, sister and brother (Robert Keith, Jacqueline Scott, Andrew Prine) in Stafford, and attempt to rebuild his life. His sister's husband Leonard Taft (portrayed by either James B. Sikking of "Hill Street Blues" or Richard Anderson of "The $6 Million Man") and his nephews (Billy Mumy of "Lost In Space" and Clint Howard of "Gentle Ben" and now a great character actor in many motion pictures) also believe in Kimble's innocence. But very few people believe Kimble's story of "a One-Armed Man", especially Gerard. Since Gerard could never find such a man in Stafford at the time, the lieutenant calls the One-Armed Man a figment of Kimble's imagination--a desperate memory of a guilty man. As Kimble scours the USA trying to find Johnson, even as Gerard continues to pursue him, Kimble finds that there are people, mostly women, who do believe in his innocence. It helps to be a most attractive Fugitive. Plus, Kimble is a genuinely nice man who shows his humanitarian side time and again. He risks capture to save people in trouble, and even saves Gerard's life a few times. Each time, though, Gerard is quick to remind Kimble, "this changes nothing". Besides being great human drama, The Fugitive is a nice travelogue of the USA in the 1960s. While not every episode is shot on location, many of them are, and all 40 episodes selcted for the 20 Nu Ventures Video Volumes listed at auction are in excellent condition, uncut, and several even have their original ABC-TV network identifications and/or logos included. The 40 episodes were hand-picked by Nu Ventures Video in 1990 as they are the series' very best. These are the episodes which propelled the series along into reaching its final total of 120 shows. These are truly "The Fugitive's Greatest Hits". VOLUME 18: MAN IN A CHARIOT (9/15/64): Kimble becomes hopeful when he sees a TV talk show featuring famed attorney Professor G. Stanley Lazer (Ed Begley, Sr.) stating that he believes he could overturn the verdict in Kimble's case. Kimble locates Lazer and agrees to let him seek a new trial. Lazer sends for the Kimble trial transcripts, and this alerts some reporters who want to know why the professor would want details of Kimble's case. As practice, Lazer and his students stage a mock trial which Kimble also studies to learn what he might do differently in a second trial. But just as the verdict is sent to the jury, the local police storm the classroom looking for Kimble. With guest star Ed Begley, Sr. THE 2130 (3/29/66): This is one of the very best episodes of the series What if Gerard had a computer to help him track down Kimble? Oscar-winner Melvyn Douglas guest stars as respected neuropsychiatrist Mark Ryder, who is outraged when he discovers his "trusted" chaffeur is actually Kimble. Computer genius Ryder calls Gerard and convinces the skeptical lieutenant to program everything he knows about Kimble into the computer. This includes Kimble's habits, the types of jobs he usually finds, usual escape routes, etc. The pioneering, room-sized computer, the 2130, surprises Gerard when it appears to be working. However, Gerard remains frustrated as Kimble is always able to stay just one step ahead of capture. Just as Gerard is about to give up on the experiment, Kimble appears to be truly catchable. Yet Gerard seems strangely pleased when the computer cannot factor in everything... With guest star Melvyn Douglas. These episodes are in Black & White, and this Volume comes in its original sleeve with a full Color Janssen/Morse photo also used as a TV Guide cover, and the series original logo on the front, with Black & White still shots and episode synopses on the reverse.
