Offered for auction is a wonderful Palais Royale mother-of-pearl open salt in brass ormolu with flowers, leaves and grape vines mounted on an oak base. The salt and base are finished in beaded brass trim. I have no idea of the provenance of this multi-media piece, nor have I found anything that looks like it in my reference books. The MOP salt measures 3" by 1-7/8", and there are "branches" extended over each end to hold a spoon. The colors in the shell are simply amazing - pinks, yellows and greens reflect from both the interior and exterior. The tangle of ormolu that forms a holder for the salt appears to be brass, with leaves and flowers on a twisted stem with a silver metal leaf in the center on each side. Extending from the each end are two grape leaves with a bunch of grapes hanging down. The ormolu is fastened to an oval hard wood base with rings screwed into the base and tiny brass nails. The base has a rubber backing and measures just under 4" by 3-1/4". The whole piece stands 2-3/4" high at the spoon rests. As you can see, condition is very good. Payment by PayPal is due within 3 days of auction end. Package will be shipped by USPS First Class Mail, with delivery confirmation included for US purchases. Please visit my other auctions! I am always happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases. |
