Salvia disermas – ‘Bergamot Sage.' – A plant without a common name, I gave the name of Bergamot to this plant because of its cool blue scent that distantly evokes the scent of bergamot found in Earl Gray. This one shares with other South African Salvias yet another beguiling aroma. I find this one most appealing, yet completely indescribable. The sticky blue-green leaves are covered with sticky hairs which exude this smell with the slightest brush. The white flowers, which bees can't leave alone, are held on 2' tall stems which share the plant's stickiness and smell. Excellent in the Mediterranean climate zone garden, this mixes well with smaller herbs such as Lavender and Thyme.
For a sunny, well drained position in the garden, this one does well near the coastline, where full sun and little summer water are best, to hotter inland hills, where some shade and more water are best. It will survive brief cold snaps as low as 22º F.
Please check our other sales - we have many listings
in the other plant categories!
- Postage and packing rates: All of my plant
auctions and sales can be combined freely to be mailed in the same box.
We mail plants using
USPS Priority Mail. The shipping and handling charges are calculated
automatically by ebay using the weight of the order and the USPS
shipping charts. They will be packaged with great care and effort to
ensure they arrive safely and ready for your garden. They are sent in
pots, fully rooted and watered for the journey. A lot of time and
materials go into the preparation of your plants for the journey, which
is reflected in the small handling charge per plant. I assure you - not
a penny goes to waste! Larger orders reduce the shipping cost per plant
substantially.
