The Original pewter civil war chess set from the early days of the Franklin Mint. Heavy pewter on brass bases which are enameled blue or gray for the Union and Confederate armies. This set sold for $1,100.00 in 1983. This is the pewter set and civil war set after which so many were later modeled. The 12&3/4" by 12&3/4" by 2&1/4" chess board opens to house custom designed felt lined storage for the sculptured historical figures which are Grant & Lee (Kings) Clara Barton & Belle Boyd (queens), Sheridan, Sherman, Meade & Custer, Beauregard, Wheeler, Stonewall Jackson & Jeb Stuart. The condition is good and the beautiful heavy sculptured pieces will be individually wrapped for shipping.
