Vtg Blue Hanky Handkerchief Monogram E Wedding Madeira

Beautiful pale blue hand embroidered in white with a graceful letter "E".  Embroidered flower and leaves as well as shadow work accents frame the monogram.  The hanky has been hand-washed, line-dried and lightly sized.

The hanky measure 13" square. The fabric is semi-sheer; I believe it to be a linen or linen/cotton blend.

The whtie embroidery is done in raised and padded satin and outline stitches and has a slight sheen. The monogram has the most raised feel and look of all the embroidery and is accented with blue shadow work. Additionally, there are punch work accents. The monogram is approximately 4 inches tall and 5 inches wide from end to end and completely fills one corner. The embroidery appears to be Madeira work although there is no tag. The embroidery is beautiful.

Unfortunately, there is one faint stain that my washing could not remove. I've pictured it in the 3rd and 4th photos above. The stain is exactly on the fold-line. It's as if something brushed against the edge of the handkerchief.

There is a beautiful woven ribbon border around the edges of the hanky in a stair-step pattern. The hem is hand rolled.

There are no rips or tears. Even with the above mentioned stain, this hanky is gorgeous.
