Performance of his theatre pieces is regular. The most visible was the annual performance from 1637 to 1968 on New Year's day of Gijsbrecht van Aemsetl.  Vondel stayed productive at very old age. Several of his most notable plays such as Lucifer and Adam in Ballingschap were written after 1650, when he had passed his 65th anniversary.
