#14575 VICTORIAN SIX PIECE CARVED PARLOR SET

We are pleased to be offering something that you just don't see anymore.  It is a complete Victorian six-piece solid black walnut hand carved Civil War era parlor set.  Dating from the 1870s era, this set features the original dark walnut finish with newer upholstery, a beautiful hand carved crest Cameo back extra large sofa, a gentleman's open arm carved armchair, an oversized ladies hand carved chair, and three beautiful matching side chairs that are also hand carved.  It is a gorgeous set that has been reupholstered I guess in the last 20-30 years in a beige fabric with a little floral design with mostly beige and a little bit of a light tan or almost a light rose color with upholstery being in overall good condition except for a water stain on the seat of the sofa as you are sitting down on it down in the right hand corner.  Don't know if you can professionally have it cleaned to have it come out or not but it looks like it is possible but other than that, there are no rips or tears or snarls or anything—just really nice upholstery.  The woodwork is unbelievable.  It has been around now for almost 140 years and it is the original finish with no breaks, no repairs, and just a nice looking patina that only 140-year-old original walnut finish can give you.  Where the seams of the molding come together, you can see lines where there are separation cracks, but you would have a hard time sticking a piece of paper in the seams of the lines, so it is no big deal.  Overall, the condition is outstanding.  This is a really nice, tight and sturdy Civil War era parlor set.  The overall size starting with the sofa at the widest point 65 inches between the arms, 49 inches.  From the front to the back, approximately 28 inches deep, the overall height at the tallest point is 41 inches, and the height to the seat is 18 inches.  This piece features a beautiful Cameo back with excessive carving on the hand carved crest right in the center of the medallion, and also big leaf carving and tulips carved into the open style back.  The flowing molding conforms around right down into the carved arms and into the cabriole legs and serpentine wooden skirt front—it’s a gorgeous sofa.

The side chairs are 19 inches wide, 18 inches deep, 37 inches tall, and 18 inches high.  They are hand carved on the carved crest and on the oval back with big hand carved molding and cabriole legs with a serpentine skirt that remains in outstanding original condition as stated before.

The ladies chair is 22 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 39 inches high to the top of the hand carved crest, and 18 inches high to the seat.  It’s a lovely chair, with solid walnut construction and a large carved floral hand carved crest, beautiful shape with cabriole legs, and of course it has its original finish.

Last but not least is the armchair.  It is 26 inches across the arms, 23 inches deep, 32 inches tall to the back and 18 inches high to the seat, and 24 inches high to arm.  This is a wonderfully carved chair would sell well just by itself.  You can tell that this is quality because the arms even have carving on the inside, and of course the carved knuckles fall down into the carved cabriole leg with a serpentine skirt, and is resplendent with the striking hand carved crest and finger carving on the right and left hand side, which mirrors the carving that is also on the side chairs and lady’s chair—Gorgeous and very nice! We are pleased to be offering it to you today—please enjoy the listing and have fun.  You will go a long ways to find a set as nice as this.
