Bronze sculpture by the French Master Marius-Jean-Antonin Mercié (1845-1916), 13 1/2", Siot-Decauville Foundry, Paris. A rendering of Joan of Arc (Jeanne D'Arc) dressed in armor, standing with eyes closed, hands clasped, praying. At her feet are her helmut and sword. She also wears pointy stir-ups on her feet and a wreath on her head. There is much detail throughout. Signed Mercié and has the Paris foundry mark of Siot-Decauville. Measures 13 1/2" tall including base which is 4" x 3 5/8" x 3/4" and it weighs 7 lbs. Patinated Bronze. Date: Late 19th Century or Early 20th Century. (Siot-Decauville, a foundry for bronze reproductions of art, was active in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.) |
