Gilt Decorated blue cloth boards , all edges gilt

  Originally published in 1843 and dedicated to the newly born Prince of Wales - to celebrate the birth of the first heir apparent for 80 years .

This edition ( the 2nd ) was differently bound . [ Osborne page 793 hold both printings ] . The Gilt decoration on front cover portrays F Winterhalter's portrait of the Prince of Wales aged 3.

 

The book is inscribed to the reverse of the frontis :

 

"Johnny Bu??? from the Duchess of Somerset"

 17 cm x 12 cm : 196 pp

A selection of anecdotes of about 90 famous children , arranged into sections : "Filial Love" "Generosity" Forgiveness" etc

With 6 tissue guarded Colour Plates

  Condition :

Covers worn with rubbed corners . Edge of spine split along rear edge . The pages appear to have been re glued into the binding .  Separation at one section otherwise solid . Pages generally clean with occasional finger marks.

A book about Royal Children - scarce in any printing - UNIQUE as a gift from Royalty.
