 This Statesman Pen is made from Gaboon Ebony wood and Alternate Marble.    Ebony is the Greek word for "Fruit of the Gods".  Historically drinking goblets were made from its wood, as they believed it was an antidote for poison and its use would ward off their enemies evil intent.  This may be the origin of the "magic wand" which is said to be made of ebony.  The trees of today are few and far between and of much smaller size then twenty years ago..... Found on the Asian, Indian and African Continents.  They can grow to 50 ` in height and 1 1/2 diameter..... Today it is getting more difficult to get the pure blacks of ebony wood.  Instrument makers are resorting to synthetics for a substitute. Alternate Marble is a substitute for marble of which it then can turned on a wood lathe
