POPE BENEDICT XVI
Our Beloved Pope
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany,
a hard-line guardian of conservative doctrine,
was recently elected as the 265th pope.
He chose the name Pope Benedict XVI,
calling himself “a simple, humble worker.”
Having been an ordained priest for
more than 50 years,
Benedict XVI has much experience
not only as a priest,
but as a teacher, professor,
and even as Dean of the College of Cardinals.
He was also selected by Pope John Paul II
to be head of the Congregation
for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The latter half of his ministry has been spent protecting the church from reformation that is contrary to church dogma.
Benedict XVI was a strong supporter of
John Paul II’s
attempts to strengthen the central authority
of the church and will continue his efforts.
