 FOOTBALL THRILLS - Monsters Of The Midway - Chicago Bears - The Monsters of the Midway acquired the nickname beginning in 1940, and the nickname for ferocious Chicago defenses has stuck to this day. These are the players who originally struck fear in the hearts of the their competitors. Fear that would not be renewed until the dominant Chicago Bears defense of 1985. This schedule poster documents the great names in Chicago Bears history.

Hall Of Famers:

  • Bronko Nagurski (1963)
  • Sid Luckman (1965)
  • Danny Fortmann (1965)
  • Bulldog Turner (1966)
  • George Musso (1982)

    A couple of particular notes; this was the last season for Bronko Nagurski who came out of retirement to play Tackle and Fullback- The Bears continued to dominate the NFL's Western Division, winning their 4th straight Division Title with an 8-1-1 record. The season had several highlights - QB Sid Luckman lit up the New York Giants for 433 yards and 7 TDs, the first ever 400 yard passing game in NFL history - The season cultivated with the NFL Championship Game at Wrigley Field. The Bears dominated the Redskins 41-21 before over 34,000 fans. Sid Luckman throws five TD passes. While Bronko Nagurski scores his last Bear TD, a 3-yard run.

I have found only one similar image offered up for sale; it was a broadside and is a variation of this image. 18 B&W photographic images of the 1943 roster framed by the background of a vintage pigskin; leaving no doubt of the time period it glorifies. Screaming FOOTBALL THRILLS which the Chicago Bears of 1943 did not disappoint. A rare example of sports promotion from a time period in which paper was in high demand.
