This is an instruction book in Turkish/English spotlights needlework and crochet works, the important products of traditional Turkish culture and handicrafts showing the motifs one-by-one with various examples and color photographs and drawings. Descriptions of needlework & crochet-work are complemented by discussion of beliefs about this unique craft.

It is kind of a "how to do book" including instructions for each different motif. This book is the identical printing  of the first edition, by AKM.

 

Needlework crafts have entered the world literature, as "Turkish Lacework"  which resembles to the lacework at first sight.  

 

Patterns are created by knotting the high quality thread with small needles.

 

They are mostly made by peasant women in many different styles and with different color combinations.

 

Anatolias vast varieties of plants and colored flowers are reborn in the imagination of its women mostly as an expression of emotions.

 

These lace edging is called "OYA".

 

Not only women's emotions but also incidents that have left a mark on society can be observed in lace. In this book you will even find little explanations about the source of inspiration for each motif.
