This auction is for 11 early VALENTINE'S MANUALS by Henry Collins Brown as follows: 1916-1917 NEW SERIES, 256 pages. Covers worn at top and bottom of spine and corners, a bit cocked. Green cloth wilt decoration of Indian-Cowboy & eagle on front. Excellent internally. 1917- New Series No. 2 , 448 pages, pull-out of Peter Stuyvesant's army entering New Amsterdam. a LARGE fold out of the New York City with and from a view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the south side as it looked in 1876. This piece is a bit torn where it meets the book, still fantastic to frame. This volume shows fading and wear to blue cloth boards but is profusely illustrated with black and white and vibrant color pages, excellent internally. 1918-1919 Title pages states 1919 - Volume III new series. Covers show fading and wear around extremities . GORGEOUS LARGE color fold -outs of Broadway, both sides from Battery Place to Tin Pot Alley (now Exchange Alley ) in 1848, THE PROMENADE AT THE BATTERY 1829, and a less colorful and on much thinner paper pull-out the city of New York 6 years before the Civil war in 1855. These pull-outs have small tears near where they meet the book, excellent to frame. A couple of interior pages have some issues, generally excellent internally with lots of bl/wh and color illustrations. ALL OF THE REST OF THESE VOLUMES SHOW WEAR TO EXTREMITIES OF COVERS AND SOME FADING, MAY BE A BIT COCKED BUT ARE EXCELLENT INTERNALLY 1921-1923 are all profusely illustrated with black/white and color illustrations... Valentine's Manual of the City of New York. No. 4 New Series, 1920 with 4 color fold outs 1921 NEW SERIES NO. 5 - With 3 fold-outs 1922 New Series No.6 - with 2 fold outs 1923 New Series No. 7 - 1924 Yearbook of the Museum of the City of New York, Frontispiece and title page in color, balance in black and white 1925 Yearbook of the Museum of the City of New York ,Frontispiece and title page in color, balance in black and white 1926 -Frontispiece and title page in color, balance in black and white 1927 -Has image pasted on inside front cover, signed by previous owner and inscribed, second printing Nov. 1926, has seen bit of water exposure, covers are a little rougher than others but internally still very good. One color costume plate. ALSO INCLUDED IS A 1981 BOOK WHICH IS A GENERAL INDEX TO VALENTINE'S MANUALS OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK 1841-1870 , COMPILED BY RICHARD HOE LAWRENCE AND OTTO HUFELAND, in excellent condition. |
