IMPORTANT HANDMADE

AMERICAN
VIOLIN
BIG, GORGEOUS, POWERFUL SOUND
Bearing the Original Handwritten Label of
GEORGE BINKS, 1928

~ Listen to the Sound Sample ~

Here for your examination is an extraordinary hand-made American
violin with a wonderful sound...deep and rich with tons of power.

The violin is beautifully carved...a handsome violin by any standard.
The most extraordinary thing about this violin in my opinion is
its voice.  It  sings with a delicious, rich, deep and velvety with
incredible volume and resonance.  It is loaded with deep
resonance...absolutely gorgeous. As always, I've included
a sound sample so that you can judge the sound for yourself.
The maker really got this one right and it has mellowed with age.

SOUND SAMPLE

(To hear this sample, click the "play" arrow...)

ABOUT THIS SOUND SAMPLE: This video clip is shot on my inexpensive
Casio digital camera in video mode. There is absolutely no enhancement
of the sound whatsoever...no special microphones, no computer
alteration, no studio effects. The piece is a short excerpt from
Siciliene (Paradis/Kreisler). The player is a violin student
who  always welcomes your comments. Enjoy!

This is a remarkable antique American violin. Not only is this
a beautifully made instrument by a talented maker, but
more importantly, it has a beautiful voice...sweet and
singing in the treble end....Dark and velvety...with
tons of resonance in the bass strings.

Measurements: This is a Full size, 4/4 violin that measures
 23-3/4 inches in overall length. The body measures 14-1'4" long;
lower bout is 8-1/4";  upper is 6-5/8".  Ships in a older case.

Original Handwritten Label

GEO BINKS.
Vilion. Maker.
St. Louis, M.O.  July 1928

The wood used was carefully selected. The back and sides are of
a special, lovely ribbon maple, flamey and very three dimensional.
The top is a fine, high quality tone spruce. This is a high quality
instrument from a better American violinmaker who was likely
trained by the master luthiers  of the late 19th & early 20th
century. These makers were faithful to the German & Italian form.

The original finish is a a deep oil varnish the color of honey.
Its the kind of rich, glowing patina that only father time can create.

The mature voice of this violin speaks for itself. It bears its
original maker's signature and date on the inside. This is quality
antique violin and as usual, I have included a video sound
sample so that you can judge it for yourself. I believe this violin
belongs in the hands of a professional violinist or collector
who wants to add a fine, old American instrument to their collection.

This beautiful American violin is a one of a kind,
hand carved instrument by a gifted violinmaker.
The carving is just right...deeply carved scroll, lovely
finely cut sound holes and nice broad arching which
likely accounts for the big, deep resonant sound.

As I mentioned, this violin is over 80 years old and you can tell
from the lovely, round, open tone that it has been played quite a
bit.  It has likely been restored at some point; seams closed, a
small 1/2 hairline in the usual place--the outisde eye of the
bass sound hole sealed, etc.  Everything is solid now and
this violin is a remarkable example of the beauty
of early American violinmaking.

Exceptional, professional quality American violins
of this age and in this fine state of preservation are
becoming more and more difficult to find. They are
highly sought after by professional violinists, violin
teachers and private collectors. Listen to the sound
sample; if you're looking for a special instrument that
has stood the test of time, this one may be for you.

I ship AT COST...absolutely no extra fees, no handling charges, and
I never charge for packaging materials. You pay ONLY the actual

This fine violin will be sold without reserve...in a real auction format!

I have started the auction with a low starting bid to allow all to participate.
I like the old-fashioned Ebay format for violins like this; no reserves, no
buy it now. The highest bidder wins it. This is a fantastic opportunity
to have a vintage, hand-made Violin . It is an antique item; sold as is,
as it was found. These estate items are being sold without a reserve.
If the instrument/case is damaged in shipping, the original packaging
and contents must be shown to your local postmaster and buyer will be
asked to apply for compensation directly. All sales are final, please
ask any questions that you might have. That's what I'm here for.

Questions and answers about this item
Q: Sorry, but we still wonder about a soundpost crack on the back. A truly gorgeous violin, and we are just making sure. thanks.
A: Hi, I took the violin to our local shop who originally examined it and showed them what you were seeing on the photo. Yes, it does indeed appear to be a fracture in the wood. It doesn't run like a normal crack, but... Continue reading
