These interactive toys from Bandai are quite cute.  The care you give the character will determine what type of character you get.  The better you take care of them, the easier they will be to handle as they grow and the cuter they will be as an adult.  The worse you take care of them, the more attention they will need and the less cute they will be as an adult. 

They get hungry, they cry and need praise or time out, they get sick and they go to the bathroom.  You can connect with Version 4 and other Version 4.5s in order to visit, give presents or play games.

There is always something new happening to them...at certain ages they go to preschool, regular school and then work.  They even get married and have a baby.  You earn points with games to buy them things.

The toy does not take up your whole day...there may be 5 minutes of frantic care for them and then you're free for 3 hours until they call again.  You can even pause them so that you don't need to tend to them.  When on pause, their life cycle pauses.  When you return to play with them they are at the exact stage and age you left them at.  You can even turn off the sound.

Version 4.5 has new games, characters and careers and you can earn more "gotchi-prizes" at tamatown.com, a website you can log into where you guide your character through different "town places" and games to earn points.

After my sons went through several older versions, I finally tried this version a few months ago...and now I'm on my 4th generation of tamagotchi's!    It's kind of nice because I can buy my boys items I know they want but don't have the points for and give it to them as a gift.  They get so much pleasure out of that.
