Metaphorically speaking, the Who’s Who books when it comes to the American Saddlebred are the Nihil Obstat…and Imprimatur..

IT JUST DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS…..

Christmas is Just Around the Corner...Great gift for the horse lover in your family, and don’t forget yourself…..

These are the greatest books ever published and so hard to find.

You’re in luck because I have a total of 7 for sale this week.  Check it out Volumes 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 16.

There were a total of 17 Volumes of WHO’S WHO IN HORSEDOM.  Don’t miss out

UP FOR AUCTION:

WHO’S WHO IN HORSEDOM

by the late J.H. RANSOM

VOLUME VIII – 1955 Hardbound 1st Edition

A volume dedicated to the Generous and Devoted Sponsors of:

           THE SPORT OF KINGS

This is a VINTAGE “MUST HAVE” for any Saddlebred enthusiast.  620 Pages For being “54” years old it’s in really good condition.  No marks or tears, binding is tight.   This volume looks like it’s been under glass all these years, it’s so perfect…

I own the entire collection of the Who’s Who books.  I think  “THIS ISSUE IS THE BIGGEST!!!”  There were a total of 17 Volumes of WHO’S WHO IN HORSEDOM.  Don’t miss out –

It’s dedicated to George D. Widener.  ”. was born in 1889… has given much time and devotion toward fostering ideals for the betterment of racing.  In 1942 he became President of New York’s world-famous race course, Belmont Park, … In 1948 he was awarded the New York Turf Writers Award….. owner of Erdenheim Farm near Philadelphia, which is his home, and Old Kenny Farm, Lexington, Kentucky.  His stallions Eight-Thirty and Battlefield stand at Old Kenny Farm along with his band of fashionably-bred broodmares.

 I promise it’s a great read…..

This is History.  Sections for: Saddlebreds, Thoroughbreds, Walking Horses, Hackneys and Standardbreds.

Great picture of the bronze statue of jockey, George Wolf “the Iceman” – Remember Seabiscut?

Legendary artist, George Ford Morris…His painting of Roxie Highland…. And see photo of his personal mount “Glen Chief…”

The Saddle Horse sections always have the first page Memories of a Railbird…” by Jim Ransom…

“J.W. Waring founded “The Official Horse Show Blue Book” in 1906.. at age fifty… He published it for 29 years until his death.  The Blue Book was the show horse bible.  This writer had the pleasure and honor of working with Mr. Waring during his last years with this beautiful volume… The most beautiful book published for horsemen.”

“The flock of memories that came flying back as I walked out of the old Coliseum at Louisville on September 17 last, and watched the lights go out for the final time…. Lots and lots of show horse legend and lore goes with that most historic edifice as time marches on” …..  “almost half a century ago 3 of the most famous Saddle stallions of the day, Rex McDonald, Forest King and Grand McDonald were all “syndicate” owned over in Missouri.  Of these Rex McDonald was probably the most successful as Dr. R.E. Graham of Columbia, who was head of the company reported an income of over $8,000 (a lot of money in those days)….”  “.. Artist George Ford Morris showing the bay five gaited stallion,Glen Chief, … a product of Powhatan Woolridge’s Pee Wee Valley, Ky. Farm which Mr. Morris purchased after he had practically swept the board in Kentucky as a 2 year old….

See the picture of Miss Budweiser and the photo of the Busch Dynasty.

See the photo of Donna Gentry.  Do you know who that is?  She was Mrs. Bud Gentry back in 1955 but that’s none other than legendary Donna Moore.  She was inducted into the hall of fame at the Royal in 2008.

See the photo here of AlbertaLee Cox. Then reference the January, 2008 issue of Saddle&Bridle reflects on her life story.

Famous Trainers: Names like:  Ball, Barham, Bradshaw, Buford, Caldwell, Combs, , Cronan,  Davis, Dickey, Drew, Dunn, Greenwell, Gwinn, Hailey, Hayden, Higgins, Hook, Jones, Lee Bros,  McCray, Moreland, Nichols, Ragsdale, Roberts, Shropshire, Simmons, , Smith,  Teater, Tucker, Utz, Van Lennep

And the HORSES:  Every great one you’ve “ever” heard of is profiled in this magnificent book with outstanding vintage photographs.  I wish I could type all of them but it would take days to do so.

The Great Breeding Farms:  You will love reading all about the farms, the families, the successes, the failures.

OBIT:  Jumps Cauthorn “… nationally known horseman and journalist “Jumps” Cauthorn died April 13, 1955…. Born in 1891 in Mexico, MO, developed an interest in Saddle horses early and during his youth was associated with many famous horseman including George and Wm. Lee, John Hook, and Tom Bass.  He often recalled having ridden Rex McDonald bareback.”  “.. $10,000 World Champion Stake at the Kentucky State Fair may be credited, in large measure to Mr. Cauthorn.  Failing to get political backing for such a Stake in the Missouri State Fair, “Jumps” took his idea to Mat S. Cohen, then commissioner of Agriculture in Kentucky.  Between the two the great Stake at Louisville became a reality…” Consider that the World Championship might have been in Missouri! ! ! !
