THOMAS A. COOPER, actor. Payment receipt signed. Received 30 October 1847, for the sum of ninety three dollars, for thirty one days work as customs Inspector for the District of New York. Cooper has signed his name twice on the document. Printed on blue paper measuring 9 1/2” x 7 1/4”. Several folds, else very good. Authenticity guaranteed. Seller is a member of PADA (Professional Autograph Dealers Association), ABAA (Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America Inc.) and ILAB (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers). New York residents will be charged sales tax. Thomas Abthorpe Cooper (1776-1849) was an English born American actor who performed in classic and contemporary works, praised as a unrivaled tragedian. Cooper acted as manager of the Park Theatre, himself acting until the age of 61. Cooper spent his last years working as an Inspector for the New York Custom House. |
