Vintage/Victorian souvenir plate for Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Center is handpainted with holly and shows some wear and paint loss. Reticulated (cut-outs) edge through which a gold ribbon was threaded. As you can see in the photos, this ribbon is not so bad in the back, but the front has lots of ribbon wear, bits missing, fraying. I like to keep old items as found, but I'm sure you could easily remove the old ribbon and add a new one if you so chose. I think the edge of the plate was bordered with gold but that has all mostly rubbed off. Plate is an opaque white and is soiled and dirty. Owing to the fragile nature of the ribbon, I have not attempted to clean it. Measures 4-1/2" across. This is a neat little souvenir plate for anyone with ties to Pittsfield, NH. Perhaps this was a Christmas gift given at the turn-of-the-century to someone from Pittsfield. P&H includes insurance for your and the plate's protection.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO BUYERS ABOUT P/H: My shipping charge includes exact postage (within two ounces to allow for scale variance between mine and the post office's) and a minimal handling fee (typically no more than $2 per item, but sometimes more for large, heavy, odd-shaped, fragile or international packages). Listing and selling something like a postcard for $9.99 at auction (plus P&H of $1.75) will cost the seller $1.90 in eBay/PayPal fees; sell an eBay store item for the same amount and the cost to the seller will be a minimum of $2.22, provided that the item sells the first month it's posted. There are all sorts of fees associated with having an eBay store from a monthly subscription to a picture hosting service, not to mention listing fees and a minimum sales commission of 12%. While we all like a bargain, myself included, there are a lot of expenses involved with selling on eBay and accepting PayPal payments. Every single business that sells product builds in overhead, either into the asking price or into the P&H or both. For an eBay seller, overhead includes time and expense of locating items, getting them ready to list (cleaning, taking photos, researching what similar items are selling for), listing, buying packing supplies, ink for the printer, gas, and going to the post office, not to mention the actual cost of an item to the seller and all of the eBay and PayPal fees, including the listing fees that are charged whether an item sells or not. None of that is free. My own inventory has accumulated over 24 years of buying and selling, long before eBay, back when antiques and collectibles were regional items and consequently fewer in number and considered far more rare and thus more costly than what is available today on the Internet. It's a wholesale world out there now and to be competitive, sellers must price their items as inexpensively as possible in order to compete. The handling fee is one small way to help absorb some of the expenses involved doing business with eBay and PayPal.
