PRESENTATION SILVER WINE GOBLET BY “WILLIAM BURWASH & RICHARD SIBLEY” 1805. Old Presentation 1805 silver goblet, gold washed interior. with some history involved by renowned London makers William Burwash & Richard Sibley. Measures 5 1/4" tall by 3 1/2" in diameter at the top and 3" in diameter at the base. Weight: 10.4 oz ( 295 gr.) Stamped on the rim of base as you can see on the photo. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Condition is great regarding age and use. London makers William Burwash and Richard Sibley registered their partnership mark on October 7th, 1805. Arthur Grimwade in London Goldsmiths 1697-1837 Their Marks & Lives asserts (in his typical understated English way) that Sibley's work, 'whether alone or in. Etched on the goblet. To his Excellency Lieut. Governor Hamiltonfrom the Merchants of Heligoland for the Services He has rendered them. 1809 Little History. In 1807, Heligoland was seized by the British during the Napoleonic Wars. It became a centre of smuggling and espionage against Napoleon. Thousands of Germans fled to Britain and to the King's German Legion via Heligoland.
