OLD German Whiskey Barrel with Orig Iron Strappings

#1933  This is a GORGEOUS OLD piece!    One of a group of OLD German pieces we just picked up and are listing here.  We got THREE of these old Whiskey Barrels.  The one listed below is the one you will RECEIVE. 

It's an old German Whiskey Barrel.  They would pour the liquid in the hole and  plug it.......age it......and when the time came.....stick a tap in it & enjoy!   Rick and I have one that we bought years ago.  We bought one of those old brass beer taps and stuck it in the opening and use it as a great conversation piece in our bar area.  This thing is TIGHT!  It consists of NINETEEN Thick slat boards that are bound with BEAUTIFUL iron strappings to the top and bottom and two in the center.   The wood on this piece has a GORGEOUS Patina!  That "stuff" you see around the opening on the front is hardened with age.  I'm only "guessing" it's risidual wax or whatever they may have used to seal the area around the tap.      

PLEASE NOTE:  In the pictures below you will see the ORIGINAL steel bolts used on the iron strappings.....and just to the right of them you will see NEWER black steel screws.  Here's why:  When these old whiskey barrels are taken out of commission and no longer have liquid in them to swell the wood and keep the slat boards tight....they tend to draw up slightly (as in...the wood shrinks slightly as it dries).....so when they take it out of commission they screw these screws in there to hold the wood tightly into place. 

Measures 14 7/8" tall, 12 1/2" wide & 43 1/4" Around the Belly.  VERY HEAVY Piece!
