This auction is for an old authentic original Prussian "Main Armee" Medal from 1866 in excellent condition.

The Main Armee was the Prussian (German) Army of the river Main.

 

The prussian cross medal looks like is made of bronce and reads

 

front:

reads the words "DER MAIN ARMEE 1866" (The Main Army 1866) around the prussian eagle.

back:

reads the words "GOTT WAR MIT UNS IHM SEI DIE EHRE" (God was with us, the fame is his) and PREUSSENS SIEGREICHEM HEERE (to Prussians victorious Army) around the initials R and W and the crown.

 

The photo shows both sides of the medal.

 

The 1866 Prussian Cross medal was for the Preussisch - Deutschen Krieg (Prussian German War also called Austro-Prussian War n 1866) - the seven weeks war - a significant civil war in German history in 1866 between the Austrian Empire and its German allies on one side and the Kingdom of Prussia with its German allies and Italy on the other, that resulted in Prussian dominance over the German states. In Germany and Austria, it is also the Österreichisch-preussischer Krieg (Austro-Prussian War) or Bruderkrieg (war of brothers). In the Italian unification process, this is called the Third Independence War.
