DESCRIPTION:
Asiaticum is a species bulb that will form huge, beautiful clumps and has gigantic, white, spidery blooms can grow to 18" in diameter on 5' scapes with up to 32 flowers that stay open for many days. They will form offsets and large quantities of golfball-size seeds. Mature bulbs can reach 10" in diameter and weigh 25 pounds. Because of their size, difficulty in digging them, and the prohibitive cost to ship them, this is the most ideal size for you to start growing. These bulbs have been started from seed and have been growing in 1 gallon pots for at least 1 year. Their leaves are about 6" tall and they have developed extensive roots. They are ready to be planted in the ground or a pot. I grow about 375 different types of crinum, and these are the second largest variety that I have. They are very reliable, form lots of seeds and typically bloom June-December, but I have had blooms every month except January here in zone 9.
BACKGROUND: Originating from the Indio-Pacific region, asiaticum has many other names such as GROWING CONDITIONS:
Asiaticum has a blooming season that extends for many months from late spring into winter in the South and for a shorter period further north. This should be considered a semi-tropical, more tender than some crinum, it will survive to zone 8, with mulch, and is only hardy to about 20 degrees F, since it does not grow very deep. This is a hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils and moisture conditions. As I said earlier, the immense size of the bulbs makes them impractical to dig up and ship, but starting with smaller bulbs will be worth the wait. Just plant them where they can eventually grow into a 6' by 6' area. They do best if planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, but they will also make excellent, large container plants. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on TWO 1+ year old plants, 6+" tall, started from seed with leaves just starting to grow. They will grow quite rapidly from this stage if planted in the ground and given adequate moisture and full sun but probably will not bloom for 3-4 years. Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. PHOTOS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These are the ACTUAL pictures of my plants, so you know exactly what they look like and what you will receive. They show the mature form of the plant. These are Fixed Price auctions that will usually have more than one item for sale. Since they are Buy It Now, you can purchase one or more items, depending on how many are available. Just enter how many you wish when you are requested to do so. Shipping for the first item is clearly stated. On many auctions, there is a, smaller charge for each additional item you purchase. That charge is clearly stated in each listing. In some cases it will say Each Additional Item “Free”, meaning you can buy as many as are available with no extra charge for shipping. If an auction listing is for 2 bulbs, or 15 bulbs, etc. (see the listing heading or the Description of Item For Bid), that means if you purchase one offer, you receive the 2 or 15 bulbs, etc. Most items, however, are sold as single items, so if you want more than one, you have to request it. IF YOU PLAN TO BUY ITEMS FROM TWO OR MORE AUCTIONS do NOT pay for any auctions, but wait until you receive a combined invoice from me directly (not the automatic invoice that is sent by EBay). My invoice will total the correct shipping charges, so you are not paying the higher shipping cost that would be generated for buying the auctions individually. In other words, I give a shipping discount for combined purchases. IF YOU PAY AND DO NOT WAIT FOR MY COMBINED INVOICE, I WILL NOT FEEL ANY OBLIGATION TO REFUND YOU ANY SHIPPING CHARGES AFTER THE FACT. I figure my shipping on multiple auctions according to this method: First, you are charged the total shipping on the auction that has the highest shipping charges (usually the heaviest bulb/plant). Second, I add in any charges for additional plants purchased on that heaviest auction (if there are additional items purchased). I use the quoted shipping price for each additional item purchased on that one auction. Third, I charge $1 for each additional auction that you purchase if those auctions list additional items as “Free” meaning no charge if you buy more than one item. If the additional auction has a charge for additional items, I use that charge and multiply it by the number of items you bought in that auction. For example, let’s say you win 3 auctions: Auction #1 says shipping is $6 and additional items are $2 each – you buy 2 items Auction #2 says shipping is $4.80 and there is no charge for additional items – you buy 3 items Auction #3 says shipping is $8 and additional items are $4 – you buy 3 items Your Total Shipping will be: $8 for auction #3 since it has the highest base shipping charge of $8 plus $4 each for the 2 additional items – total would be $16 Auction #2, even though you bought 3 items, you pay only $1 for extra shipping since additional items were listed as “Free” for additional shipping Auction #1 you bought 2 items that have a $2 additional shipping charge, so you pay a total of $4 TOTAL SHIPPING COST: $16 + $1 + $4 = $21 Flat Rate Boxes are available in 2 sizes, $9.90 and $12.99. In some cases, when I think I can get everything into a Flat Rate Box, I will just charge for that, but most of the heavy bulbs, unfortunately, are too large to fit in these boxes. This might sound confusing, but I have used it for thousands of sales, and the shipping charges usually work out pretty close. I do NOT try to make money on shipping. Sometimes I’m a few dollars high and sometimes a few dollars short. Since I mail from
