Type: LampsPrimary Material: Mixed Materials
Age: 1900-1940Original/Reproduction: Original
A very rare valuable 30's antique table lamp with two extraordinary art figures on the same base.originally on a fancy old pedestal(only one lamp is for sale here).2 beautiful Grecian women running.28 inch high statues.this  came from a quality art auction especially centered on rare plaster cement art which can go very high into the thousands with or without signatures.people are looking for these rarities because 99% of them have been discarded due to poor handling or shipping when moving over the decades. they are discarded due to chips, broken limbs from falls etc. the castings are as accurate as any high quality spelter casting such as Moreau statues and many other famous names.as to history-30's and origin this statue is undamaged with original oil paint done by hand.it has aging to the surface which is expected and should be left alone.many of the pieces that go to auction are rare unusual castings like this, of very large 5 foot statues to large elaborate clock casings.mostly castings of men and women prone or standing.anatomically they are superb as this pair is. many are copies of Moreau statues and a hundred other french, european and american artists who cast in spelter and bronze.this art piece has exceptional beauty at every angle and lighting condition.there is a signature on the plaster base line where it meets the wooden base.the white part on down is the base.invariably worn or chipped or abraded the letters were gone over with enamel years ago.it's not unusual .a well known company name one can't be sure.above all this its an outstanding very rare casting-complete-undamaged.they can partially be made out as lettering in a bright light and glass.nothing readable.its normal that such statues will be touch up by artists who know oils and can match colors to cover abrasion or tiny chipping.seller has seen exceptional statues like this in spelter form with the real signature of Moreau or other french artists.the copyright laws started in the 20's were weak and took many decades to be enforced.there were no controls on expert casting artists to copy the bronze and spelter statues. the original makers themselves -many made casting themselves in plaster also due to demand .porcelain was also added to the copies.the value of this work of art is that it is an antique original in exceptional condition with high artistic merit.such art has gone well over a thousand dollars if people bidding want it.emotional art appeal is separate from cost.the auctioneer verbally appraised this piece for me when asked at a minimum of six fifty due to the condition and age.it weighs 37 pounds approx .it has a heavy steel skeleton which the larger better castings used to prevent cracking from impact.the arms have likely a 3/16 rod to the wrist.legs and torso have solid rods throughout.there may be a wieghted bottom for pedestals.seller is not sure.its bolted onto the wooden base and the whole piece is one solid uncraked casting.arms and legs are not to be handled at any time as a rule.they are handled only by the torso and base when being carried -on a table they are slid or positioned the same way.woman on left with quiver of arrows holds a small pheasant in her right upheld arm.there are tiny unoticaeble chips some touched up.on the bottom is original pad worn, old.socket and plug are old but in vg condition.the photos are clear and show an excellent surface.surface is satin.original oil paint ,now dry looking-that has a beautiful patina of its own.it was semi-glossy when new. bidding starts at $335.00,30.00 shipping, ins ups-crated by seller only.safely delivered.ups-street address needed-tracking delivery day sent. vacations -notify seller immediately to arrange shipping date..will be a complex prof. packing job in a 400lb test v large box using the best methods.don't let this rarity pass you by! it is not likely to be seen again.shipping discounted 65%.part of all sales goes overseas to protect children plus smiletrain.bin available on all listings through ask seller a question.payment through paypal is required same day.in accordance with ebay guidelines.same invoice and everything as if the auction ran its full course with a winning bidder.seller has with prof. techniques delivered this type of art all over- undamaged-takes work, knowledge.can be picked up-11796.ny.continental usa only.
