Vintage, Antique E. Leitz Wetzlar Brass Microscope C1906 This all brass construction German microscope is signed on the heavy horseshoe foot/base " E. LEITZ WETZLAR No 98900 Filiale New York.” The scope was manufactured in 1906. 98,900 : (S/N: 90,886 – 100,000 : manufactured in 1906) Coarse focusing is rack & pinion, with fine focusing achieved via the micrometer wheel as well as a further draw tube which has numbered settings. The scope has three rotating lower objective pieces labeled numbers 3, 6 and 12, all of which are marked E. Leitz Wetzlar. In addition, the No. 12 objective is labeled “Oel. Immersion” (for Oil Immersion). The eye piece objective at top of the tube is marked 7.5, which is B&L.O. with 0.1 mm divisions within the field of view, used as a measuring aid. The scope has a sub-stage condenser with iris, with the plano-concave mirror being in excellent condition. The only piece missing is one of the metal clips for holding down the glass slide. The microscope is in good mechanical condition with its original brass lacquer, which has some rubbing on the thumb wheel and foot. Microscope measures 12 inches high with the tube in the down position. Brass parts have the original lacquer finish, some of which is wearing off around the top inch of the tube. There is some wear to the black paint on the base, as well as some light spotting of the finish on the brass parts. The solid wood mahogany case measures 14 inches tall by 6.25 inches wide by 8 inches deep. There is a sliding wooden compartment in the top-left interior side. The compartment contains an unmarked 10x upper eyepiece. The case has a heavy folding brass bail handle, with an old patina. It does not have a lock. A working Spencer, Buffalo USA electric artificial light source is also included. A small red box with No.1 22mm square covers, and a box of No.1 22x40mm covers are included, in additional lens tissues, and a bottle of immersion oil. The microscope belonged to Clarence H. Walton, MD (Plainfield, Indiana), who donated the microscope to the College of Pharmacy in 1985 This high quality microscope is from an excellent maker, which should appeal to serious collectors of scientific instruments. $25 covers domestic shipping, materials, and insurance up to maximum value.
