GAFF is a 4 DVD set that takes gaff cards and gaff effects to a whole new level. This DVD has over 40 effects, instructions on how to make your own gaff cards and some very clever effects. The DVD Set comes with a file with gaff cards which you can easily make - everything is explained in this DVD set.

It is a good idea to have a color printer and a computer which can read DVD's. The idea of having a folder with ready to print gaff cards was very clever in my opinion.

Also, it would make life easier if you buy some blank cards - however on the DVD it teaches how to make your own blank cards.

On to the DVD's.

First DVD - Introduction to GAFF

This DVD is an introduction to the DVD Set. It goes over about the history of this DVD Set. It tells you why the DVD Set was made, the problems with modern gaff card magic which the DVD solves - like being able to hand out the gaff cards at the end of the effect to the spectator as a souvenir.

Next, the DVD goes over some basic card fundamentals - like Double Lifts, False Shuffles, some Color Changes, some forces and a GAFF force - you open a sealed, cellophane wrapped deck, take out the cards, riffle through the deck, spectator says stop anywhere - and the card is forced on them. very good.

Then it goes into information on how to make the GAFF cards - Basic Card Gaffing. Everything on those DVD's is explained very, very clearly. The teaching on the DVD's is very good, everything is neat and in place on the close-up pad which makes learning very easy. It also has music added to make everything more exciting and fun.

The DVD shows how to make blank cards using erasing techniques, how to print your own gaff cards which are stored on this DVD, how to make the cards last for tons of performances if needed, so your homemade cards won't smudge, rub off in a performance or anything. It includes instructions how to get the cards printed so GAFF Cards get printed on top of them perfectly. It also shows how to peel cards and glue them together - to make double facers and double backers.

There is a section on the DVD called "Extras" where you learn 6 simple effects - quick types of effects which utilize GAFF cards; like showing a card, then doing something magical to it which gives a very magical result - like making the pips fall down, after giving the card a spin the card ending up all "swirly" etc. After this, it shows effects with a "Hidden Chamber" gimmick - it allows you to produce for example coins from a deck of cards, after cleanly showing the deck.

And that is the first DVD of the 4 DVD Set - Introduction to GAFF.

Second  DVD - Volume 1 - Cardfinders

This DVD is entitled Cardfinders because in this DVD the basic idea of the effect is that a spectator chooses a card, and then you reveal it in some mysterious way.

You will need to make GAFF cards for those effects, and you will have to use knowledge from the first DVD and also this DVD will explain the gaffs needed for those tricks.

I think the highlight of this DVD is a trick called "The Silent Card Trick". I thought the idea of the effect was very, very good. What happens is, with no talking, the performer's patter and instructions for the trick is printed on the back of the first 10-20 cards as the audience knows. The performer points to the first card, which has "Welcome to the Silent Card Trick" printed on the back. He places that card face down on the table, and points to the next card which will have further instructions like "I will riffle through the cards and you tell me when to stop" etc. The spectator tells the magician when to stop riffling, for example at the King of Diamonds. The magician points to the backs of the top cards that say "Is this your card" etc, and the magician fails because the two cards he removes are not the spectator's selection. However, the magician tries one last time, and he turns the ribbon-spreaded instructions cards over - and they all turn into the selected card. Very visual and clever I thought. You print the instructions on to the cards, and those GAFF Prints are stored on the Introduction to GAFF DVD. This DVD has nice effects with GAFF Cards.

Third DVD - Volume 2 - Let's Go Mental

This DVD is about Mentalism combined with GAFF cards.

This DVD is awesome. The highlights of this DVD is 497 for me.

The effect is, a spectator chooses a card, 7 of Clubs. The mentalist asks the spectator to multiply the number of the card  by itself, times it by ten, and then add the original number. The result is 497 and the suit is Clubs. The spectator does all of this silently in their head. The mentalist says he has the card they are now thinking of on the table. He then turns over the card on the table and it is 497 of Clubs, with all 497 Clubs on the card!

The print for this card is included on the DVD, and I thought it was awesome.

I thought there were some very good effects on the DVD. It is cards combined with Mentalism.

Fourth DVD - Volume 3 - Creative Card Magic

This is a very cool DVD. As the title says - it is creative card magic.

Every trick here has it's own gaff which you have to make.

The first trick is "Bite-Out Card" - you can perform the "Bite-Out Coin" and follow it with this, because both effects are as visual. There is a version without a gimmick, and one with a gimmick. Good effect.

Another great effect on this DVD is Hybrid, which is a Torn and Restored Card but you restore the card with a piece from a completely different card and the wrong way. Cool effect.

I think most people will be using Bite-Out Card, it is a pretty easy trick but you need to acquire a "knack" for it. The angles are alright but not very good. However it is very visual.

The ideas on this DVD are very good.

Overall, I think this is a great DVD Set. Everything is explained perfectly, there is some music played to add some "beat" to the DVD's which doesn't distract from the teaching, There are some very good GAFF card prints included, like GAFF Prints to make your own 3 Card Monte etc. I think if you have a color printer, a computer which can read DVD's, you will be ready to make the GAFF cards. It will be easier if you buy some blank decks however. You will probably have the other stuff needed around the house like to coat the card so the printing does not rub off.

This DVD Set is awesome. I recommend this DVD Set. I give it 10/10.

Again and again we see magic gimmicks and tricks that claim its use is “limited only by your imagination.” Usually there is a grain of truth to that claim. Now, however, we have a product in which this claim is true in spades -- and diamond and hearts and clubs and - well, you can make up your own suit and put it here using “GAFF: Home Made Gimmicks.”
There is truly no end to what you might do with the tools and tricks you’ll learn in “GAFF.” Even the individual tricks can be re-imagined to present an unending flow of new uses, new effects and new routines.
On these four DVDs you will find ways to move pips, holes, numbers, etc.; to bite a card, burn, tear up cards and restore them; to lift the numbers off and have them show up anywhere you desire; to make wild and fantastic and otherwise impossible predictions and perform other feats of mentalism that no one else could. If you’ve seen other gaff cards or decks - you can recreate these cards. If you owned another gaff card or deck - now you can hand out signed cards as souvenirs and still have other cards to replace them. Never, again, run out of you gaffs.
“GAFF” starts with an introductory DVD which shows you all the techniques needed to know to make one gaff card or whole gaff decks. They first lay out all the tools and potions and other items you’ll need when erasing and printing. Most of these will already be around the house and they are all inexpensive. The arsenal should not cost more than $10 to gather the things not already owned.
The second disk is called “Card Finder.” It consists of a series of “pick a card, any card . . . . And this is your card.” In other words, the basic arsenal of most card magicians. But each reveal has a different twist to the end: the bicycling joker disappears and finds your card, the card rises from the deck, a hole is in the pip of your signed card. These and others stand to amaze any spectator.
The third disk, “Let’s Go Mental,” is for the Mentalists among us. In this disk they teach how to make a false prediction - but with an insurance policy so that you’re never wrong, teach a spectator to burn a card with the power of his mind and then find that particular card is the only one burned, or you find the card in a cascade by stabbing your finger directly through its heart. These and other tricks readily show that you have special mental powers beyond those of mere mortals.
The last disk, “Creative Card Magic,” is a hodge podge of other methods. Here you’ll learn to take a bite out of a card and restore it (the trick from the trailer that got me interested in this product), Ace-Embly is a trick where four indifferent cards turn into the four aces with just one sleight, and a torn-and restored card in which the card becomes a hybrid of two different values, again that can be passed out as a souvenir. Among the others is “Magic Ink,” in which a blank-faced card appears to erase the ink from the other cards “right before your eyes,” and then the back can place that ink on any other card. An interesting concept that can be expanded upon to a whole routine, I wager.
I make note that, apparently due to copyright issues, some of the methods for making certain cards are necessarily more complicated than they might otherwise be. For the savvy viewer, one can see through these instances and make the cards the easier, cleaner way.
The manipulations presented in this product are manifold. Just one viewing of the Introduction disk should serve to spark one’s imagination, let alone the other three disks. So, for example, if one wishes to force a 7 of diamonds, one can present a 3 ½ of diamonds to the spectator and explain that you were half right; or force a three of hearts and present them with the Tree of Hearts as their card - and that is just off the top of my head.
One of my favorite tricks in the set is “My Little Assistant.” If you’ve seen the trick “CardToon” you know that the little assistant which is already drawn on the deck selects a representation of the selected card. An excellent trick and one I admire for its ingenuity. With “GAFF,” however, the little assistant is drawn right before the eyes of the audience and then, when he disappears into the deck - he comes back literally holding the selected card in his hand. And, once again, you can hand this out as a souvenir. Why? Because you can always make more.
I believe this is a what many amateur magicians and pros alike have been waiting for. No longer need they pay $25 or $30 for a set of gaff cards from which they may only use a select few. Now each magician can reflect his own personality with his own gaff card routine.

When reviewing magic products I usually start by reading the back cover of it. This is what I found on the GAFF: home made gimmicks DVD set back cover:

“The next generation of gaff card magic is here!” and “all you need to know in order to make and use professional GAFF cards”

Pretty cocky, except that after watching all four DVDs I got to say: that is exactly what this DVD set is.

I’m not used to writing good reviews on products.  In the market today you usually just don’t get what was promised to you, and end up being disappointed and feeling robbed, so it’s always a pleasant surprise to get much more then you thought you will.

This 4 DVD set is amazing. It teaches you all you need to know about GAFF cards making and some truly amazing effects you can do with gaff cards, that, for me, were eye opening.

Most of the reviews I read on this DVD set talk about the silent card trick, or say hello to my little friend. These are amazing tricks, no doubt, but for me the highlight of the whole set is Half. This trick, that is a twist on a classic of gaff cards just blow me away. In this trick you take a signed ace, tear it into two pieces, and each half turns into a HALF AN ACE.  Printed, that is. Amazing. The reactions I got with this one trick were worth the whole set. I carry this trick everywhere I go. For me, this is a must.

Don’t get me wrong: This set is amazing. You learn everything there is to learn about gaff cards and how to make them, and then, in three detailed DVDs you learn Cardfinders (cool ways to present a chosen card to your spectator), Mental effects and other creative card effects you can do with gaff cards.

And one more thing: This DVD set gave me more material to work with, then all the other GAFF magic tricks I bought combined. After this, I’m going to buy everything these guys come out with.

Awesome!
