Compaq C502US 1.86GHZ LAPTOP PARTS or REPAIR-Powers up

On powerup the laptop comes up white blank as shown in picture 1. I can see that motherpoard powers up, CD drive opens on command and there is hard disk activity on the led's. The LCD lits with white screen and hard disk seems to be doing something. Same things happen again and again when i power up. The LCD appears OK but it displays like shown in the picture. Apart from this no other information is known about the laptop. It was bought in a garage sale.

Physically the following parts are present on the laptop and no warranty/gurrantee of the parts; It has single stick on 256MB instead of 512MB.

I see everything mentioned by manufacturer below present on the laptop with exception of AC charger. One key is missing from the keyboard- hinges are tight- hinger cover is scratched.
