STAFFORDSHIRE SNUFF TAKER FULL FIGURE VERY LARGE 19THC

This Staffordshire figure is a male snuff taker, full standing figure and very large. I would say it is quite rare. He is taking snuff from a red snuff pot which is tucked in his pocket.  He is wearing a black flat small brimmed hat, a black coat with yellow cuffs and a matching tie, white stockings and yellow breeches. He sports a grey wig which is tied back with a red bow. He stands on a sponge- painted base  He reminds me of a Dickensian lawyer.  There is no indication of the pottery but like the similar female figure I have also listed, the underglaze painting has the translucency of tin glazing. 

We bought this figure as a pair along with the other large female figure that I am listing at the moment.  I'm not sure that they are a pair but they do look good together especially among a collection of early Toby figures being of similar style and period.  They may represent well known figures of the day or even characters from Dickens work.

Condition:  There are no repairs but I feel, but am not sure, that there may be some overpainting to the edge of the base rim.  There is some minor chip damage to the base rim at the edges which cannot be seen but I have tried to show on the photograph.

Further research leads me to believe that this is an 18th Century figure.
