This auction is for a beautiful and extremely scarce 3 volume set of antique 1st first edition leather bound books in very nice condition for the age entitled Dryden's Poetical Works or Poetical Works of John Dryden, published in 1854 by John W. Parker and Son, West Strand, London, edited by Robert Bell, with marbled page edges that still shine and brightly colored marbled end papers, gold leather covers with ornate gold gilt spines, all books still well-bound, and near fine inside, mostly clean and bright throughout the pages internally without any apparent tears, folds, or markings. There is a neat private library bookplate inside the front of each book that has an engraved shield and reads in Latin "Spes Mea Veritas" and the name of the owner is "George Francis Farnham." The only apparent damage is light surface wear to the outside cover typical from handling and wear to the outside spines including part of the label on Volume I missing and others chipped, as shown, but otherwise these rare old 1st edition books are in wonderful condition, and are valued at over $300 based on past rare book sales where they were in worse condition. We are offering several antique, vintage, and collectible books so please check out our other auctions. No reserve & thanks for looking! |
