Ultra Portable

Easy to carry to any observing location, whether a distant mountaintop or your own back yard, this telescope brings the excitement of astronomy to anyone, anywhere. Say you have the urge to hike to the top of a mountain for some real stellar observing. Once you get up there, you just need a few moments to set up your telescope and let your Autostar controller calculate your position. Just place the telescope on the field tripod included with this scope, or on any sturdy flat surface, do a quick and easy 60-second alignment of the telescope's computer, and start observing. Six internal AA-batteries (not included) power this telescope for over 20 hours in the field.

Terrestrial Observing

Meade ETX telescopes also make excellent land-view instruments for the bird watcher, the naturalist, or for the home with a view. ETX image quality and resolution typically far exceed the levels normally expected of terrestrial telescopes. You will quickly appreciate the advantages afforded by the Autostar hand controller even when checking out objects closer to home. Dual-Axis Drive And Tripod

In conjunction with the telescope's Autostar hand controller, precision worm gear systems on each axis permit smooth push button motions of the telescope. Integrated to one of the fork arms, the telescope's Control Panel serves as a central connection point for the hand controller. Included with this telescope is a standard field tripod (#882), designed specifically for this model. It includes all the rigidity and stability required for high-power astronomical observing. The light aluminum tripod permits altazimuth (vertical-horizontal) alignment of the telescope and easily adjusts for standing or seated observations through the telescope. The tripod includes an accessory shelf to hold eyepieces and the Autostar hand controller and is packed in a rugged Cordura-type carry bag for transport in the field.
