WHY NO RESERVE?
As most bidders have learned over the years, only a small percentage of reserve auctions on eBay actually meet the reserve or sell. Frustrating? No doubt! eBay has become a very attractive advertising forum for retail sellers, not a selling forum as we think it should be. This means that even if we put an auction on with a reasonable price, our reserve auctions will quite possibly be ignored. People are tired of chasing items that they're interested in that have a reserve that is never met. The retail mentality of sellers is hard to shake, even in a tough market! eBayers will NOT pay retail. We are OK with that!
So to get serious bidders, we use a no reserve auction format and a low starting price. Our intention is not to advertise our stuff, but to ACTUALLY sell it for whatever the market deems the price should be. We are not a retail seller. Our intention is to SELL our items. It may seem like a scary proposition for us the seller, but we believe that buyers in the market set the price of goods, not book values or retailers. There are fewer new item sales from the full retail "brick and mortar" stores these days and thus a larger market for good used items at fair prices. That takes a lot of the risk out of no reserve auctions for us!
This is a real auction with NO Reserve and NO Buy It Now, the high bidder wins it!
