The 1947 BOX CAR CHIEF from Ricks Model Company had a thick airfoil and its shoulder wing was held in place with rubber bands---not a wise idea today, of course. But back then engines were using ignition timing and turned about 7-8,000 rpms. So they didn't put the strain on a plane that today's higher rpm (think 13,000) engines do. So the answer was to strengthen the original great stunt design for modern needs. The ad I show for the BOX-CAR ran in the November, 1948, Air Trails magazine. Here is a set of updated plans for this Old Time Stunt plane that allows you to put a nice Fox .35 in place. The wing span is 42 inches and the chord is 9-1/2 inches for 400 squares. The fuselage is indeed a sheet sided box with sheeting on the top and bottom. The wing is straight and needs only one rib pattern. It couldn't be any simpler to build than this. YOU ARE PURCHASING A NICE, CLEAN, WHITE, FULL-SIZE COPY OF THESE UPDATED KIT PLANS FOR THE BOX CAR CHIEF, FOLDED IN A MANILLA ENVELOPE. Yes, I combine postage on multiple purchases.
