I Grade them based on the guidelines found in the Goldmine Record Album Price Guide.NEAR MINT (NM) : A nearly perfect record. I won’t grade any record higher than this.(If a record is still in it’s original shrink wrap, I’ll grade it as “Sealed”). LP COVER will have no obvious signs of wear, no creases, folds, seam splits or “cut-out holes. Inner sleeve may have a factory-originated turned up corner, but otherwise perfect. THE VINYL will look as though it probably hasn’t even been played. Certainly no surface noise. No wear on labels. VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) : Record will show some signs that it was played or handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. COVER will have slight signs of wear and may have a “cut-out“ hole or slice. Definitely no seam splits.Custom inner sleeve may have turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. VINYL surface may show some slight signs of wear and may have light scuffs or very light scratches that won’t affect sound quality. May have slight warp that doesn’t affect sound quality. Center hole may show slight wear. All but the most fanatical collectors will find a VG+ record highly desireable. VERY GOOD (VG) : The types of defects found on VG+ vinyl will be a little more pronounced. The same will be true of inner sleeves and covers. However, it will not have all of these defects at the same time, only one or two. Surface noise may be present when played, especially in soft passages and between tracks but will not overpower the music. It will have light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail that will not affect the sound. GOOD (G) : (GOOD DOES NOT MEAN BAD!) COVER or sleeve may have seam splits, ring wear or other defects that will be obvious. VINYL can be put on a turntable and played through without skipping. But it will have surface noise and scratches.
