How to do Aircraft Sheet Metal Work, by Carl Norcross and James D. Quinn Jr., originally published by McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York, NY, 1942. Re-published by Lindsay Publications, Bradley, IL, 1997. 5½ x 8½ paperback, viii + 285 pages, ISBN 1-55918-189-3
Have you ever seen the smooth contours and perfect transitions on the skin of a DC-3? How did they do that? Airplanes, like custom autos, are exquisite examples of sheet metal craftsmanship. This book will show you how it was done in 1942. Chapters include blueprint reading; shop math; properties and standards of aircraft materials; how to measure; templates; aircraft sheet metal layout; how to cut sheet; files and how to use them; forming, stamping, and hydraulic presses; drilling and how to do it; how to rivet; jig assembly in modern aircraft factories; skin fitting; spot welding; and shop projects. You learn to work sheet metal in the most basic terms. You'll see a man removing wrinkles from a curved sheet using a planishing hammer and bumping stake. And a man bending an extrusion to an irregular shape using a rawhide hammer over a V block. Or a man using a bucking bar while riveting. Or a man using a vixen file to rapidly trim an aluminum alloy sheet. This is all nuts-and-bolts how-to. No fancy theory or math. One of the best sheet metal books I've ever seen. Just what you need to help you restore your Bughatti. Or make a radio chassis or tool box.

TERMS OF PAYMENT.
RETURN POLICY. Please contact us before returning any book. Returns will not be accepted if you have not previously contacted us. Also, returns will not be accepted more than one month after the closing date of this auction. SHIPPING IN THE UNITED STATES. The choices and cost of shipping is provided on the page you can view by clicking on the [Shipping and Payments] tab above.
HANDLING AND SHIPPING TIME. No books are shipped until payment is received. Most books will be shipped within three business days of the RECIEPT OF PAYMENT. However, were forced by ebay to select a time period from a drop-down menu, and we have selected five days because there have been a few, rare occasions in the past eleven years that we just have not been able to get a book out as fast as we -- and you -- would like. Sometimes there are illnesses or plumbing emergencies to deal with, and, truth be told, we mis-place a book at least once a year. Also, please note that we are often on the road on weekends, and on days immediately before or after weekends. This is especially so during the summer, from late June to the end of October. Shipping may be delayed a few days at those times we are away. Please understand that we have NO control or influence over how quickly or how slowly the Post Office delivers your book. Please wait at least two weeks before inquiring about your book. And note that the only thing we’ll be able to tell you is the date we mailed it from the Post Office. We will NOT be able to tell you where the book is, or when the Post Office is going to deliver it. BUYING AND SHIPPING OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES. The choices and cost of shipping is specified on the page you can view by clicking on the [Shipping and Payments] tab above. Our experience in the past few years is that MAILING OVERSEAS HAS BECOME SOMEWHAT RISKIER AND MUCH, MUCH SLOWER. We have seen a handful of books take nearly two months to be delivered. Italy particularly seems to have problems: books we have mailed to Italy seem to always take at least three or four weeks. We’re sorry, but there is nothing we can do about the postal services of our respective countries. As of January 15, 2009 eBay does NOT ALLOW us to even MENTION any other form of payment other than eBay’s wholly owned subsidiary, PayPal. See http://pages.ebay.com/sell/August2008Update/Payments/ if you don’t believe me. The history of industrial, transportation, and agricultural development
