Wise Advise (Everyone read first!): The Best Way to Filter Use
600-400-200-100 micron strainers (see my other auctions) stacked on top
of a bucket or barrel to pre-filter your liquids. Then filter in
succession through as many different sized filter bags as possible. For
example 50-25-10-5-1 micron (bags stuffed inside of each other). You
can use higher micron sized bags in place of the strainers. Your
filters will last a LOT LONGER if you filter in succession rather than
straight into a 10 micron filter, and you will SAVE MONEY. Same goes
for strainers-Filter in succession, not right into the 100 micron. I
get around 800 gallons per set of bag filters before I need to throw
them out (without washing them). I have made all my auctions cheap on a
per bag basis rather than in lots so you can get what you want and what
will work best for you. Enjoy the savings and take advantage of it!

DESCRIPTION Filter bags are used to filter out unwanted debris from liquids. Once prefiltering has been done with the EZ-strainer, these filter bags do an excellent job at removing the smaller debris.
Due to the fine filtering of these fine particle removing bags, it is recommended that you filter your liquids through coarser filters first to preserve life of the filter bag. For vegetable oil, you should first strain it through a 400 or 600 micron strainer, then filter through a 200 then 100 (stacked on top of each other). Then you will be able to move onto the 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 micron filter bags. You can filter oil in succession; put the coarser bags inside of the finer bags for a one-time pass through all of them at the same time.
The bags are equipped with a stainless steel ring which is designed to be a gasket as well as support for the filter bag when used in a housing. There is a band sewn on the top for hanging (gravity filtration) applications.
The diameter of the bags is 7 inches and the depth is 16 inches. The felt used is very high grade and sewn well so the bags will take quite a beating without falling apart.
What's a micron? A micron is one millionth of a meter. To give you an idea, most diesel filters on your vehicle filter between 6-10 micron. So if you filter down to 5 or 1 micron, you are doing your filters a great favor and not clogging them.
The efficiency of polyester is about 80%. This means that 80% of the particles passing through the bag of the rated micron size or higher are caught in the fabric. If you run through two bags, (or twice through) you will catch 96% of the particles. It is most recommended to filter in succession of micron sizes to increase filter life and increase overall efficiency. (For example, use 50, 25, 5, and 1 micron bags inside of each other)
Max recommended temperature is 300 degrees. If you actually test that temperature, please don't burn yourself.
Rumors: Some people claim that polypropylene will not let water pass through them. This is not true at all. Any liquid will pass through felt materials. The only way to remove water is via boiling, settling or centrifugal means. The only difference between polyester and polypropylene is the efficiency and chemical resistivity (Will not degrade as much when used with biodiesel). Polyester is the best for filtering WVO since they are cheap and easy to work with.
