Lodewijk Kleijn:  L.J. Kleijn was born on August 14th, 1817 in the town of Loosduinen which is close to THE HAGUE.  He Had shown a great promise to be admitted to the studio of Visual Arts of the Master Scheifhout (1787-1870) in The Hague.  As Scheifhout was the masters of Landscapes artists; so Kleijn was the best student to follow and replace the master in learning the master's techniques and the subject matters. He was the most important landscape artist of the Romantic painters.

He combines the pastoral foreground with the windmills indicating the rural History of Holland.  The waterways and the casual angler add to the general feeling of peace and tranquility.  Kleijn died on the 11th of March 1897 in THE HAGUE.
