My father was in his prime as a master craftsman when he created these bonny lads. In this lot, there are six 54mm lead toy soldiers that would represent the armies of Scotland at different historical periods. The details and colors on these figures is extraordinary - even for my father. He always favored the Black Watch and Highlander soldiers because their uniforms were so colorful and decorative. These military figures were probably originally kits which the hobbyist would assemble and paint. I wish the camera could capture more ralistically, all the colors and intricate patterns of the kilts, berets, etc. in the tartan plaids. One figure is a kneeling rifleman. One is a 42nd Highlanderstanding at ease. Two are Blackwatch infantrymen. A 5th is a Scotsman who might have fought for the British at the Battle of Waterloo. The last is a brilliantly colored bagpiper. Dad handpainted them meticulosuly back in the late 60's and early 70's. Each figure has his their own wooden stand ad two of the stands have lables describing the regiments. Lots of details on these six noble warriors. Lot will include a bio-sheet on my father and his exceptional craftsmanship. |
