Fascinating old large oval Photo Locket, approx. 35 x 30 x 5 mm, made of heavy gauge rolled gold on metal.

Cutout monogram appliqued to front in mediaeval or Gothic style  in red, white and blue enamel letters with engraved ground.

Plain polished back engraved 'LONDON 1870 - 1871' in decorative capitals.

High quality manufacture with concealed flush hinge and inner photo frame.

This is an intriguing item bought in France which seems to commemorate a period of time in London rather than a single date of celebration. The enamel is in the national colours of both countries.

Very good general condition - only a few scratches and tiny dents from wear-and no damage to coloured enamel  monogram which is still shiny.

Lovely antique gold colour and tone makes this still very wearable.
