Antique Louis XIV Boulle Inlaid French Table ca.1860

This is an elegant Louis XIV antique center table in the style of Andre Charles Boulle, sculptor to Louis XIV of France.  It is a lovely, very old and original piece.   One of a kind.

Please note:  Pictures were taken with the table in front of full-length mirror. (There is only one table!)  Some of the pictures were taken with flash and some were not. The ones taken with flash show more of the gilt work. The ones without flash show the table as it appears in natural daylight. Some were taken with the glass top in place, some were taken with it removed.

This wonderful table has graced my home for the last 11 years.  It has not been restored, retouched or even polished. I prefer the original aged patina, rather than looking brand new when it is very old.  But I suppose you could shine it up or have it restored if you so chose.

The table is a scalloped shape with a red tortoiseshell ground, inlaid with intricate cut-metal scroll work designs.  On the top is a solid piece of glass cut to fit the scalloped shape, fits inside the edging of mounted gilt brass or bronze, which continues around the entire outer edge. The glass is meant to protect the tabletop designs, similarly inlaid with brass and tortoiseshell marquetry, and surrounding the center design, a Chariot. 

There is a single drawer with dovetailed joints and ormolu-mount bronze/brass edge and mask.

The four graceful cabriole legs are ebony on the back side of each with brass and tortoiseshell marquetry on each front. Gilt ormolu brass mounts also grace the front of each - dainty mounts encircle each foot.

This table is the same all the way around, intended to be seen from all sides, a true Center Table.

It measures 30"H x 40"W x 26"D

Please Note: Consistent with age, there is loss in several areas. In a few of those small areas there is tiny writing so delicate I can't make it out. (I didn't notice it until I went over the entire piece with a magnifying glass.)
