Jake is ordered to travel to his hometown for Christmas, to close the local tractor factory-laying off countless workers. Arriving in the small town during a snowstorm, Jake loses control of his care, crashing into a snowdrift and unexpectedly meeting Emma Murphy (Melissa Gilbert) in the process. Immediately attracted to Jake, Emma nevertheless “arrests” him for trespassing, mentioning that her boyfriend, Tom (Travis Tritt), the town sheriff, will know how to deal with the strange newcomer. When Jake learns Emma is a factory employee, he cannot bear to tell her, or her daughter Noel, the real reason he’s in town – saying instead he is planning on buying a fleet of new tractors form the company, Before he knows it. Jake becomes a local hero for saving the town and Emma even turns down Tom’s proposal of marriage to be with the handsome and mysterious stranger. However, Jake’s true intentions are exposed! Emma is shattered, and Jake returns to his lonely life in the city, but all he can think about are the honest people who he misled.
