AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE

GARFIELD PATTERN

Staffordshire England
c. 1885

This Victorian aesthetic 8 1/8 " plate is transfer printed in dark chocolate brown.

The clear and crisp GARFIELD pattern features a fantastic wide, busy band of Japanesque cartouches and alternating geometric flourishes with wonderful tiny butterflies hidding among the flowers. Cascading cabbage roses spill into the well. The pattern displays the victorian eras love of nature and travel to exotic lands.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name the intials L.S. & S. and the Beehive trademark that identifies the maker as Wallis Gimson, a pottery maker working in Fenton in the Staffordshire region of England from 1884-1890.

EXCELLENT CONDITION. It is absolutely gorgeous - elegant and well potted, with richly detailed transfers reflecting the Victorian love of nature and the exotic.
