MINIATURE AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATTER

MELBOURNE PATTERN

Tunstall, Staffordshire England
c. 1881

This rare to find very small sized victorian aesthetic 5 " long x 3 3/4 " wide serving platter is transfer printed in dark brown.

The clear and crisp MELBOURNE pattern features delightful Japanesque geometric designs mixed with exotic palms, bamboo and other tropicals. A shoreline with sailing vessels set to the horizon while a large flock of birds fly by.

A cartouche of seashells and another of a bird, possibly a Wandering Pie Bird further enhances this wonderful piece. This pattern has everything going for it. The pattern displays the victorian eras love of nature and travel to exotic lands.

Condition is very good. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Heavy glaze wear to the outer rim.
