Album notes
Dink: Rob Lightbody (vocals, guitar), Jer Herring (guitar, vocals), Sean Carlin (guitar, vocals, programming), Jeff Finn (bass), Jan Eddy Van Der Kuil (drums).
Producers: Dink (tracks 1-6, 8-11); Dave "Rave" Ogilvie, Dink (track 7).
Recorded at Electrosound Studios, Kent, Ohio.
All songs written by members of Dink. Samples include "Friendly As Fascism" (as performed by Consolidated), "The Loop Of 88" and "Get On It" (as performed by Simon Harris) and "Purple Haze" (as performed by Jimi Hendrix).
Dink is what happens when college-educated alterna-boys try to dilute their industrial fixations by adding a little white funk and scant disco touches into the mix. Call it a less complex version of Nine Inch Nails, if you will. Yet, while Trent's synthetic onslaught mines the dark inner corridors of the psyche, the rage of Dink singer/songwriters Sean Carlin, Rob Lightbody and Jer Herring focuses on the moroseness of the world at large, as titles like "Urban Suicide" will surely attest.
Hailing from northern Ohio, an area steeped in punk/alternative tradition, Dink deftly combines disparate influences of anger and rhythm into a sonic collage worthy of its Midwestern predecessors (NIN, Devo, Ministry, Pere Ubu). Razor-sharp, chord-driven guitars and throbbing bass-lines, combined with loopy samples and club-conscious keyboard figures, are set to gargantuan drum sounds that shake foundations as if they've been sent down by the gods. The techno-sheen hodgepodge Dink often achieves is akin to rump-shaking heavy metal, without the cliched imagery and the bozo haircuts. And when the band streamlines its weighty groove into a sleek, hip-hop-esque package--as on "Green Mind," which rails against mindless patriotism--it helps redefine the concept of dance music for the mosh-pit generation.

Editorial reviews
...It takes several listens to hear beyond the initial mishmash impression, but once you realize the funk rhythms are the super-glue which holds the music together, it all makes sense...
Alternative Press  (02/01/1995)

...Dink have...a musical style that nods to funk, power pop and garage rawk, and a healthy sense of the ridiculous. Unfortunately, they're either going to mutate into Ween Jr or Green Day but, right now, they're fine and dandy...
Melody Maker  (07/01/1995)
