1888 Our Country - Benson Lossing Complete in 2 Volumes

For your consideration today we offer Our Country A Household History of the United States for All Readers From the Discovery of America to the Present Time by Benson J. Lossing 1888 published by The Amies Publishing Group. Complete in two volumes with over 500 illustrations by Felix O. Darley Vol. I [910] pages / Vol. II [988] pages. Volume I is missing the front decorative endpaper and both volumes have dated inscriptions and book plates. In volume II the inscriptions read "Jas S Cotton bought of Captain J K Brown 1887 price 7.00 dollars for two volumes" & "J Sumner Cotton a gift from Father J Cotton March 8 1898". There is light to moderate foxing, soiling, wrinkling and chipping to the endpapers and light foxing scattered throughout the text. The pages are supple and flexible with no brittleness and the books are complete and readable. The books are in good condition with good spines and white pages. The covers are greenish brown cloth over board with gold lettering & designs on the spine, front and rear cover they are in good condition with moderate to heavy shelf wear including soiling, fraying, edge bumps and spotting. There is some light seperation between the inside covers and the end papers but it is early and can be stopped. These books are good reads and the set is rarely found together much less in this good condition There are other (usually later) editions of this set by different publishers with between 3 and 6 volumes but this is a harder to find complete 2 volume set. The books have great illustrations many are full page including indians, soldiers, historical figures and scenes. The books are large volumes measuring 10 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 3" they have great shelf presence and would make a unique & desirable christmas gift.
