La Belle China Flow Blue Serving Bowl Wheeling Pottery

DESCRIPTION

Flow Blue serving bowl marked La Belle China.  The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Flow Blue China illustrates a piece in the same pattern (p. 165) and attributes it to the Wheeling Pottery Company of Wheeling, West Virginia.  The author dates it to after 1893.  The pattern is a dainty floral enhanced with touches of gold.  The blue is a deep cobalt darkening to almost navy.  The  bowl is stamped LA BELLE CHINA on the bottom.  I have listed other items in this pattern and am always happy to combine shipping.          

DIMENSIONS

Bowl is approximately 10 3/4" wide and 2 ½” tall.

CONDITION

Bowl is in overall very good condition.  There is a faint tight hairline on the back of the rim (approx. 1" in length), not visible on the interior of the bowl; there is a tiny flake on the edge of the base (picture with pencil); there are a very few areas of discoloration on the reverse of the bowl, particularly at the rim (the interior of the bowl is a nice, bright white); there is a tiny rough area on the rim (less than 1/8") where you see white through the gold trim and there is a small indent on the rim which was covered over with gold during the manufacturing process.  There are a very few tiny scratches in the bottom of the bowl.  These minor flaws do not detract from the quality of the piece (I just tend to go into excruciating detail in the interest of full disclosure!)
