At the time this album was produced, it was released on cassettes because CD’s were not quite ready for the market.

I've had it dubbed onto CD’s using the publicity photos I wanted to use the first time. 

I was outnumbered and pressured by my producer to allow him to have me all dressed up and made-up and photographed for the cassette cover. 

To this day, people still look at me and ask, “Is this really you?”

Of course, I always answer the same way, “This is me in real life.” 

That has to have been the biggest mistake of my life! 

I am not and have never been the “Barbie Doll Type.”

BUT! 

I HAVE THE PEN!

I call my songs “Embellished True Stories” because that is what I write.

This was confirmed when I spent time as staff rfor a local newspaper.  Facts are Facts & real life is never as exciting as fiction. 

I have literally written thousands of songs… published hundreds… and performed live for over 28 years.  I have also published short stories, essays and poetry.  All of it fiction. 

So…

Yes... I Am a Writer and I Have a Free License to Write Anything I Want Because

I HAVE THE PEN!

For every musician I know, his or her most dreaded question is, “What kind of music do you play?”

AND

Most every musician I know plays a variety of styles, falling into many different genres.  Perhaps this is because I grew up playing in local bars and I raised my kids on Bluegrass, Folk and Rock & Roll.  We hit most of the Folk and Bluegrass festivals throughout Texas, Colorado and New Mexico.

It all began with a $40.00 Mandolin. 

I never had a lesson in my life and still haven’t. 

I loved the mandolin because I knew if I could learn the basics... I could make her cry and make her shout. 

SO I DID! 

Self-taught, I was known strictly as a mandolin player for many years.

I never really had a desire to play guitar, but I was a writer!  I needed a rhythm instrument.  It was easier on guitar than mandolin to play my own songs & to teach them to others.

So, I learned from watching other pickers!  It was always the “monkey see-monkey do” method for me. 

I've played in bands, trios, duos, and finally solo.

Playing alone is definitely the hardest because there is no one there to lean on or cover your inadequacies. 

Surprising myself, I did very well, especially after I discovered the 12-string guitar.  It gave me a much fuller sound and somehow, I did not feel so exposed. 

*The Final Song on this album is my contribution to all those Sunday mornin's as a Bluegrass Mandolin Player.

After years of playing Cover Tunes, I felt I had earned the right to perform my own songs. 

I was never what people expected anyway. The cute little thing in the corner, softly finger-pickin' her guitar and singing in a sweet songbird voice.

Usually, folks either loved me or left after a few tunes. It was Ok with me, that's how I developed a following of my own.

I was tired of being compared to Stevie Nicks or Tanya Tucker or whoever…  I had already been playing a lot of my own songs anyway, mixing them in with Mr. Bojangles, Meatloaf's-2 outa 3 Ain't Bad, Poncho & Lefty, etc. 

After years of hard work - lots of days of working 2 jobs, raising 2 kids, making demo tape after demo tape, and lots of prayers, I found myself in a studio cutting my first album! 

“Poetic Justice” is a Mix of Genres. 

These 10 songs cover a period of 20 years. 

Do you have any idea how hard it is to pick 10 songs from a 1000? 

I was heavily influenced in this area too.  The songs range from a couple of the first ones I ever wrote in the early ‘70’s

(Song for You & Second Time), to songs I wrote while in the studio recording (Livin’ Life for Riley). 

My second album was ready to be recorded before I had finished this one. 

"Poetic Justice" was released at the La Fonda Hotel on the Plaza in Santa Fe, NM in 1990. 

I hope that you will be touched by one of my Embellished True Stories. 

I now know that if I can bring an emotion to the surface in just one person in the audience… that is enough.
