Antique Porcelain Majolica Figural Planter


This is a lovely old antique Art Nouveau style porcelain figural planter. It is most likely a Brothers Urbach Turn-Teplitz Austrian piece. It depicts a beautiful Victorian era lady seated on a park bench. She is wearing a long dress with big leg o' mutton sleeves, a big bonnet with feathers and a shawl and handbag or purse by her side. She is holding a fan in her hand. This figure is very ornate and has Rococco style motif and gold gilt throughout.

There are gorgeous raised relief flowers all over the piece. The gentle pastel colors are pleasing to the eye. The back of the piece has green raised leaves climbing up the back.

This piece was most likely once a lamp base because there is a drilled hole in the bottom of the planter part. You can leave it like it is or turn in it back into a lamp if you choose.

It is big and heavy and weighs several pounds. It measures approximately 12 inches high by about 8 1/4 inches across, by about 5 3/4 inches deep. It is in good condition with the exception of some nibbles to the flowers, and chips on the edges of the base legs and finials. There is some paint wear to the gold gilt from age.

This stunning figural very unique. The only markings I have found is impressed numbers 2965 21 on the bottom.

It most likely dates pre 1891 because it does not have a country of orign stamped on it. After 1891, porcelain was required to have the country of orign marked.

I do not smoke, but do not know how many smoking homes these antique / vintage items have been in for all these years. I do have 2 dogs, but all my items for sale are kept behind glass or away from my pets.
