1940's - 1950's 100% Wool 'Holiday Red' Dress
GOOD DAY LADIES!
I will call this 'holiday red' It was very difficult trying to catch the true shade of red in this vintage beauty, seems like a 100 photo's.... It is a classic holiday red, and I wasn't able to capture the exact shade. There is no orange or pinkness to it. It is a true red. 100% wool, sort of thick, you kinda can squeeze it a little. It looks to have maybe a touch of mohair in it. The skirt, & collar band are lined in a red satin material.
There are a few stains on the lining, as well as 3 moth marks... 1 is a small hole on the inside, bottom hem. The other two I tried to photograph... 1 is on the back, right bottom hemline, you really have to look, & the photo magnifies it... The 3rd. is not a hole, but a little thin mark, at the front, right shoulder. Again not terribly noticeable, but want you to know. Please see photos.
The dress is sort of simple, yet with some nice lines & details. The collar is a scooped band that flows from front to back. Long sleeves, with 3 darted detail at the elbows. Dress is darted front, back, and thru the bust. The waist is a solid 63.5cm OR 25in. There is NO GIVE in the waist. Definitely designed to flatter your beautiful female form. 7 fabric buttons, as well as a metal-hook and thread-eye close this dress. The weight or thickness of this vintage dress, I imagine would make a warm & toasty dress for the cold winter months.
Except for the few minor flaws mentioned above, this is in very good to excellent condtion. The wool has some 'thickness or squeeze'. The fabric shows no signs of wear overall. I know this is 'size specific' If this will fit you, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. You have 1 very unique, no one else has it, quality, vintage beauty. With proper care, it should last quite some time.
Measurements are below. This actually belonged to my mother, who I believe made the dress... but not sure. She was about 5'8, and at that time ranged from a 36-38 C or D bra size. I could not get this dress buttoned when it was on the mannequin. I tried to give you as many angles & views as I could.
This dress has been drycleaned. Ready to wear.
