It is truely remarkable that these items survived 500 years of salt water immersion in the South China Sea intact. They were salvaged from a Vietnamese trading vessel that sank in a storm in the "Dragon Sea" during the 15th Century and salvaged in 1999.The washer bowl is 3 5/8" in diameter and 1 5/8" high. The outside surface shows some glaze crazing and it is free from chips and cracks. The ink pot is 1 15/16" high and 2" in diameter and the glaze is as clear as the day it was made. Both vessels have the original labels and serial numbers from the original auction at Butterfields. |
